Steven Bacon and Claire Smith are MTSU students trying to balance the music life and school life as they prepare to get a head start in their music careers.

“The hardest part about making music in school and like balancing everything else about life is just finding time, I guess to be creative and just kind of get in to that head space of creativity and coming up with interesting stuff while also being stressed about everything else that’s going on.
[SOT]
“The worst thing that has go on while recording in the studio is when you assume that something is working and you’re just doing something wrong but it ends up actually being faulty equipment and you spend a lot of your session and time trying to figure out what’s wrong and it ends up just being like a faulty cable or a preamp that’s not working or something like that, something dumb that should be working."

“Just being able to have a relationship with the person who’s in charge of making that music whether it be your producer or it be you know a studio musician or something like that being able to form those relationships to where you are open and you can talk to them about it and you don’t feel like you need to stay back and stay quiet or you don’t feel like you’re opinion is invalid cause at the end of the day it’s your music and to be surrounded by people who know that and who are very much in this with you and want it to sound good for you, its those relationships that are important in situations.

“I’ve always sang and I’ve always loved music and all throughout high school, it was just people that were like oh what do you want to do with music, it was just like always my first answer I guess my sophomore year I found out that music business was a path and it was a thing so I looked into that and I ended up getting a scholarship to here at MTSU, and its been great.
